Mountain View Public Library’s Building a Better World Summer Reading Program
Mountain View Public Library will hold its annual summer reading program themed “Building a Better World” May 22-July 7 with plenty of fun activities. Children will enjoy cooking classes, computer coding classes, games, performances and plenty of new books on the shelves and fun prizes for reading rewards. Sign up starting May 22 and building a better world through reading this summer!

Book Fair – A Scholastic Book Fair will be held May 30-June 8 during library hours. All money spent at the book fair will go towards the library earning Scholastic Dollars for children’s library books and supplies. If you would like to volunteer during the book fair, let Katrina Tripp know your availability.
Cooking with Melissa – At 10 a.m. every Monday in June, those ages 7 to 14 may join Melissa for cooking classes at Mountain View Community Center’s kitchen. Classes will typically take approximately 45 minutes and all who attend must stay for cleanup. Each week participants can register for a chance to win a cool apron. The drawing will take place at the end of the last cooking class.
Bitsbox coding classes are new this year. Every Tuesday in June kids ages 7 and up may join the class to learn how to make simple commands for the computer to follow. Children must know how to read for this class.
A Build a Better World building program will place 10 a.m. every Thursday in June at the library. children will use Legos, Tinker Toys and everyday materials to build and create any kind of structure they wish. All supplies will be furnished, along with snacks.
Game time will be held every Wednesday in June at various times (typically 1 p.m.) in the library. Please contact the library or see the calendar below for more details. Game time will consist of card games and board games. Kids can bring their friends and play an assortment of games. Refreshments will be provided.
Minute to Win It game time will be held for children ages 8 and up every Friday in June at 1 p.m. in the library. Refreshments will be provided.
Marty Hahn Magic Show – Join in the magic 10 a.m. May 31 at Mountain View Community Center.
Bow of the Risen Son, featuring a famous frontier Missourian, will take place 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the community center. There will be an opportunity to shoot a bow and arrow after the program.
Falcon Family Native American Indians will perform tribal dances and present a program about Indian culture at 1 p.m. June 14 at the community center.
A Solar Eclipse program will be presented 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the library.
Harry Potter Trivia night returns Thursday, July 27. Contact the library to sign up or for more details.

Mountain View Municipal Pool is open for fun!
The pool opened 1 p.m. Saturday, May 27. Hours are 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Monday thru Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Sundays.
Admission is $2.00 ages 6 & up and $1.00 ages 5 & under. Summer season passes are $40 for individuals, $70 for 2-member families, $95 for 3-member families and $5 for each additional family member over 3 (must live in the SAME household).
Water Aerobics starts June 5 and will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Admission for water aerobics is $1 per session.
Swim lessons will be June 12-23 (morning classes only) & July 10-21 (morning & evening classes) The cost is $35.
The pool is available to rent for parties before or after hours. Call the pool for prices because it varies due to the amount of people at the party. For more information, please contact the pool at (417) 934-6540 after May 22.
